How a location QR code works
geo: URI scheme. When someone scans the code with a phone camera, the device opens the default map app — Google Maps on Android, Apple Maps on iPhone — with a pin dropped at the coordinates.
The scanner can then get directions, view the surrounding area, save the location for later, or share it with others. Optional label text appears as the pin's name. No address typing, no copy-paste — one scan, one map pin. When to use a location QR code
Use a location QR code wherever you want someone to know exactly where to go, especially when the address is hard to find, ambiguous, or non-standard.
- →Wedding invitations and event venues — drop the pin precisely on the reception hall.
- →Food trucks and pop-up stalls — share today's location with one scan.
- →Hidden or hard-to-find venues — back-alley restaurants, rooftop bars, basement events.
- →Trailheads and outdoor meetups — coordinates for spots without standard addresses.
- →Grab/Gojek pickup spots — share the exact pickup pin on a shop window for ride-hailing drivers.
Need to update this later?
Pop-up locations move. Food trucks rotate. Event venues change last minute. A static location QR is locked to one set of coordinates. A dynamic location QR redirects through a short link that opens today's location — update from your dashboard, no reprinting. Scan analytics show you which placements drive the most foot traffic.

Frequently asked questions
What map app does the QR code open?
geo: URI standard the QR encodes. Users with a different default map app set will get that one.Can I use an address instead of coordinates?
How accurate is the pin?
Does it work offline?
Is the location QR free?
Can I include directions in the QR?
geo: format only encodes a destination, not a route. The scanner taps "Directions" inside their map app to get turn-by-turn navigation from their current location. For a pre-built route, use a URL QR code pointing to a Google Maps share-route link. Will the QR work for food trucks that move daily?
Can I add a custom label to the pin?
Need to update the link later?
Static codes bake in the destination forever. Dynamic QR codes let you change where the code points without reprinting. Start free with one dynamic QR included.
